Fruit Tree Stewards

Urban Abundance offers five learn n’ serve work parties all about fruit tree care. Everyone is welcome to join us and learn about pruning, pest & disease management, and attracting our native pollinators. Local arborist and fruit tree enthusiast will be sharing their techniques and passion as we tend fruit trees at local community gardens, parks, and farms.

Harvest Volunteer

Harvest volunteers pick fruit at harvest parties August through October — no experience necessary! Harvest activities vary depending on what’s in season — we travel as a small group to harvest backyard trees, or convene a large group to thoroughly harvest a community orchard. We deliver the fresh fruit to local pantries, and volunteers are welcome to keep some for themselves.

Harvest Leader

Harvest leaders lead Urban Abundance harvest parties August through October. Leaders receive training to be able to guide volunteers on proper harvest technique, tool use, fruit sorting and packing, to help ensure that volunteers work safely, have fun, and get the job done!

Fruit Tree Inspector

Inspectors visit trees on our registry list during the months of July-October to verify the amount, size and quality of fruit. This information helps us develop our harvest schedule and ensure successful harvest parties!

Tree Scout

Tree Scouts are year-round eyes on the ground — canvassing neighborhoods with their eyes peeled for fruit trees and providing fruit tree owners with information about opportunities to share their fruit or learn about fruit tree care with Urban Abundance.
